DNP Essential I:

Scientific Underpinnings for Practice-

  1. Integrates nursing science with knowledge from ethics, the biophysical, psychosocial, analytical, and organizational sciences as the basis for the highest level of nursing practice. 

  2. Utilizes science-based theories and concepts to

       -determine the nature and significance of health and health care delivery phenomena;​​​

         -describe the actions and advanced strategies to enhance, alleviate, and ameliorate health and health care delivery         

           phenomena as appropriate; and

         -evaluate outcomes.

     3. Develops and evaluates new practice approaches based on nursing theories and theories from other disciplines.

Exemplar # 1

Picture of Organizational Culture: Individual versus Organizational Culture:

NURS 6800 Innovative Leadership

-Explored and analyzed internal and external influences on organizational culture 

-Identified the effects of  socialization on organizational culture how this affects care to organization clients   

  (patients, employees, and practitioners) 

-Explored the effect of leadership on shaping organizational culture to improve patient care.

Exemplar #2

Personal Leadership Philosophy Paper and Conceptual Model:

NURS 6800 Innovative Leadership

-Synthesized nursing, leadership, social, learning, and change theories to develop a personal leadership

  philosophy. 

-Created a conceptual model with concept/relational descriptions to illustrate systems-based design to address 

  leadership and practice foundation.

Exemplar #3

Team-Based Situational Leadership Model:

NURS 8050 DNP Project III

I created a leadership model that incorporates shared leadership and team focus into the Situational Leadership theory.  This "Team Shared Situational Leadership" model was a foundation for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee team structure to improve care delivery.  Additionally, I incorporated these concepts into my personal leadership philosophy.  The model was presented during the final DNP project presentation.
